I enjoy my Cross Country vacation trips on my Road Glide. Nothing like the open air and freedom of the open road seen from the seat of my Harley. Starting out in California and going to the east coast, then back. Hitting the old roads like Route 66. Motorcycle Rallies are fun, but the trip "To" the rally is the best part.

I see the people stuck inside their cars looking at me and wishing they were riding.

Have you ridden on long trips (not the day rides around town) on a Motorcycle?

I've done cross country trips on bicycles plenty of times and a couple of long trips on motorcycles when I was a teenager. I fly out to some jumping off point with my bike as baggage, then ride camp all the way home. Sometimes with a bud but I prefer solo travel.

IMHO, the best invention in common with bicycle and motorcycle touring is bullet proof tires. For bicycles it was the switch to Kevlar - pretty much eliminates flats - I haven't had a flat in 10 years. For motorcycles it was the switch to tubeless, and Kevlar is available for them too. (but tubeless non-Kevlar is sooo much easier to repair on the road.

You haven't experienced hell 'till you've had to fix a tubed motorcycle rear tire on the road.

On my third Goldwing anyone can go for a drive the lucky ones go for a ride.
