"You Prius loving individuals need to understand that families need a large vehicle to haul 4,5,6,7 or even more members."
I carry around a four member family with absolutely no problems...
"If my E-85 loving Suburban hauls 7 family members around at 16 MPG, I am really getting 16 MPG X 7 = 112 MPG per person!"
If you are carrying 7 members around at 16 mpg you are getting 2.3mpg/person. Take a math course!
"If a 40 MPG car hauls around one person it would take 3 cars to get the same mileage I get with one!"
If a 40mpg were carrying 1 person you would be getting 40 mpg/person. If that same car were carrying 4 people you would be getting 10mpg/person.
In order to do the math you have to know HOW to do math!
"I will put up my 6,000 lb Suburban against any Prius or Smart car in a collision, I know mine would flatten one of those!"
Compensating for small male body parts perhaps?
If you're Suburban ran into an Abrams tank the Suburban would be flattened, so what's your point?
Are you so poor of a driver that you worried about being "flattened" when you drive?

"Beecause that will all there is someday when oil runs out"
Duh...
"We can only produce less than 1/2 of what we need"
Actually it's less the 1/4 of what we consume...
"We need to experiment with things like Ethanol as a replacement"
We use 40% of our current corn crop to make enough ethanol to replace a very small percentage of the gasoline we consume. I think you can call that experiment FAILED!
If the ethanol backers are so worried about how much fuel we consume, then why do they all drive fuel guzzlers?

Why would somebody choose a fuel that gave them worse mileage and was more expensive?
Beecause that will all there is someday when oil runs out! Yes, believe it or not oil will run out. And, if you give me all the stupid statistics that say there is plenty of oil, you will once again be wrong! The USA peaked its oil production in 1969 over 40 years ago. We can only produce less than 1/2 of what we need. We need to experiment with things like Ethanol as a replacement, even if it gives us worse mileage. Then it is up to the car manufacturers to figure out how to get better mileage with Ethanol. You guys need to get real. Why do you think gas is over 4.00 a gallon? Because there is plenty to go around? Get Real!

No, shocky, you check again, and get back to us with proof of any actual food shortage caused by anything other than global politics and dictatorships that don't want their people to have food. Your propaganda knows no bounds.

"shocky, ethanol may get even more popular because the 4 billion a year in tax breaks for your beloved oil may be taken away possibly raising the price of gas even more"
IF you get rid of subsidies on both oil and ethanol, the rise on oil and gasoline prices would be much smaller then you would see on ethanol. Why would somebody choose a fuel that gave them worse mileage and was more expensive?

"Shockjock, once again, you show your stupidity. Nowhere did I say that Ethanol could not survive without the subsides."
Let's see, first you mention that there has been a bill introduced that would end ethanol subsidies:
"State Assembly Member David Valadao, R-Hanford, has introduced a bill that would end a subsidy program that has set aside about $6 million for ethanol producers since 2007."
Then you mention the what will happen if they get rid of ethanol. Why would you suddenly change subject matter unless the two statements are related? Perhaps you bad communication skills are what lead me to my conclusion?

The point of my rant was that without Ethanol added to fuel, we'd be using at least 10% more gasoline which would make the demand even higher.

tax breaks for oil exploration ?
here is a part of an article I copied from CNN:
"""The percentage depletion allowance: This lets oil companies deduct about 15% of the money generated from a well from its taxes. Eliminating it would save about $1 billion a year."""
oil companies are currently allowed to write off 15% as "equipment" costs.
that is not exploration my friend.

No! We must be truly misinformed of the tax breaks for oil exploration that the government wants to end. We are a land of give me, give me, give me and ethanol is no different.

shocky, ethanol may get even more popular because the 4 billion a year in tax breaks for your beloved oil may be taken away possibly raising the price of gas even more making more people want ethanol and other biofuels.
you complain about money going towards biofuels but you have never made a peep about the 4 billion a year in tax breaks for oil since 2004

Lets see, maybe I should buy an Asian vehicle and put more Americans out of work. And, that would pay less taxes in the coffer. I have a car that gets great mileage using ethonal!
Corn is not the only source of food. Last I checked there is no shortage of food! America needs to stop the charity by sending all our grains and crops to feed the world. Take care of the USA first. Teach the rest of the world to take care of itself! Food prices are rising because the cost to deliver it to stores is tied directly to the fuel for the trucks that haul it to the stores! Not because we are using corn for ethonal.

What about the food production ethanol production displaces? Buy a vehicle that uses less and you will have the same effect (lessen dependency on foreign oil). Stop wasting tax payers money!

"The ethonal producers will not go out of business. Ethonal has been around for years and will continue to be a major player in the future. You can denie it all you want to but, it will replace large quanties of gas in the future."
Only as long as Billions of dollars of tax payer dollars go to keep ethanol in production and Federal law forces people to use it.
Get rid of these two things and mass ethanol production would go the way of the dodo...

The ethonal producers will not go out of business. Ethonal has been around for years and will continue to be a major player in the future. You can denie it all you want to but, it will replace large quanties of gas in the future. The direction by the EPA to raise ethonal to 15% to 20% is the right way to go. I hope gas continues to rise over $5.00 a gallon so America wakes up and stops relying on a dangerous future of trusting foreign oil!

So you are admitting that without subsides ethanol producers would go out of business?
