For the last year I have just been posting prices with my iPhone. I started using GasBuddy to find prices when my husband and I travel. Since we are retired and travel a whole lot, it helps to find the best prices along the way. I just hated it when others post the wrong prices. I immediately correct it. That way the guy coming up begind me will have the right price. I think some just post prices to get points. I sure hope they aren't the ones winning the free gas! That would really tick me off.
I write down prices while driving and post them in-between exits. If the station doesn't have a picture, I take one and try to post it. I have posted over 250 stations. It helps to have the picture to make sure you're at the right station.

GB_DIRECT IS ALWAYS REPORTING INCORRECT PRICES FOR THE HESS STATION DOWN THE STREET FROM ME. PRICES POSTED ARE ALWAYS LOWER THAN WHAT IS CORRECT. TODAY THEY POSTED $3.64 AND THE PRICE IS $3.68 AND HAS BEEN $3.68 SINCE LAST FRIDAY.

A couple of months ago you were probably under the threshold for being able to add a station. Go try it again now that you're a more senior member.

I thought all I could do was mark the location of an unlisted station, provide its features, and then submit it for review/addition. I tried this a couple of months ago but the station (a 7-11) is still not listed. Does anyone know why or what might be holding it up?

Those of you who are posting in response to the OP and stating the obvious -- I appreciate that you're not doing it in the overflowing cesspool that is Newsville, but I'll remind you that you can also earn easy points by posting in the Just For Fun category if that's all you're trying to do. (If, instead, you really are trying to make meaningful contributions to the conversation in "real" topics, then I appreciate that, too -- but please read the existing replies first, and spend a few seconds thinking about whether your message is a useful addition.)

Or, like me, a Maryland Gas Buddy member, they spend extended time in other locations. In my case, I spend significant time in Northern Florida and post local gas prices when I'm there. In other cases, especially in the case of Florida Gas Buddy sites, there are "snowbirds", people who reside in a different place in winter.

It wouldn't be worth the effort, to me, to ask the moderators to change my "home location" every several weeks just because I'm on the road or relocated for relatively short periods.

But then I'm not sure why I'm even commenting on gator615's post. Since joining he's made 1 message post and has 120 points, meaning he's no longer actively participating on this website.

I haven't seen anyone here where I live post any fake ones hehe, a buddy was posting for diesel at a station that didn't have diesel and I asked the Mod how to fix it and he told me,

There are only about 5 of us posting for where I live and I am the only one who posts everyday -

Fake Gas stations to me is one that has customers and I think they are getting gas, until I drive in and see the small notes posted on the pumps saying: "Out Of Order". The customers are just buying coffee & lottery tickets and such. The employees could have posted notes over their prices where they might make sense. Frustrating to say the least.

Heather will have to speak for herself, but I suspect she means that there are stations in her town that are not in the MSL, so that when she tries to post prices the proper station name and address is not offered. She needs to know that she can still post prices just by typing in the correct address, then when she makes it to 10k points she can enter her stations in the MSL herself. (That will take awhile at her current rate of advancement.)

What does "Some of the gas stations in my town aren't even an option on GasBuddy" mean? I would like to know the details of that.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but fake people posting real prices for real stations would be OK, though.

"Fake stations are not nearly as annoying as folks who post diesel prices for stations that do not sell diesel fuel."

Could it be fake people are posting fake stations?????? Is that a double negative?????

There's only one fake station I know of and it's out in the middle of Lake Folsom in a GB area (Z Test Area) with only that station in it. It's CA Test and it's there for testing purposes only (with limited price reporting to avoid skewing stats).

PuddinPal - The posting in question does not have an MSL entry in your area. It looks as though someone used a free form entry and used the wrong town. The station actually does exist in Corcoran CA.

You can remove his prices by clicking on his prices and entering a price of 0.

Also, you have to ability to remove stations from the MSL if necessary. Just click on Gas Prices and then Master Station List to access the MSL.

Just had a fake station show up in our area this morning. In ZIP 93455 there is a new station, Take10, posted by cvs2012. This station does not exist and should be removed from the master station list.

A "fake Gas station " is a station randomly put at any address with made up prices ...for those below who are asking.

Then contact the moderators and let them know what's happening, and request they contact the other member. Keep your comments to the moderators brief, factual, and make a realistic remedy suggestion. While they don't always act quickly, the moderators have been responsive to requests I've made to them.

I'm perhaps naive, but why would someone intentionally post "fake stations"? Are you sure that it's not an error in posting?

With 635K points, you ought to know how to delete a station from the MSL.
